Security Statement
First Citizens Bank is committed to ensure that your Online Banking is safe. With our own security infrastructure in place, you can have confidence that access to your accounts is secure and private. While First Citizens Bank works to protect your banking privacy, you also play a role in protecting your computer and accounts. Below are steps you can take to ensure that your internet banking experience is safe and secure.
How to protect yourself.
- Do not reveal your online password to anyone. Your online password is designed to protect the privacy of your banking information, but it will only work if you keep it private. If you think your online password has been compromised, change it immediately.
- Do not walk away from your computer if you are in the middle of a session.
- Once you have finished conducting your banking on the Internet, always sign off before visiting other Internet sites.
- If anyone else is likely to use your computer, clear your cache memory, or close and reinitiate your browser, in order to eliminate copies of Web pages that have been stored in your hard drive. How you clear your cache will depend on the browser and version you have. This function is generally found in your preferences menu.
First Citizens Bank requires a browser with 128-bit encryption to conduct secure financial transactions over the Internet.
Unique Identifiers. To access your account and certain financial services on our website, including through Consumer and Business Electronic Banking, you will be required to enter valid access codes such as a customer/user identification code and password. Additional authentication measures for access through our online banking products are described in our Consumer Electronic Banking and Business Electronic Banking Agreements. Without proper identification, access to your account information is denied.
Encryption.
Encryption helps protect your private information so that it cannot be intercepted and read by a third party. Encryption is the scrambling of information for transmission back and forth between two points. A key is required to decode the information. When you request information about your accounts, the request is sent encrypted to First Citizens Bank. We then decode your request for information and send it back to you in an encrypted format. When you receive it, your information is decoded so that you can read it.
Secure Browsers and Encryption. We require the use of secure browsers to access our online services, including our Consumer Electronic Banking and Business Electronic Banking. Secure browsers allow protected communication with our website by encrypting the information between you and our site. We utilize Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which converts sensitive information transmitted over the Internet between your computer’s browser and our computer systems (like your password and customer/user identification code) into secure code that cannot be read by unauthorized parties. To access your account through Consumer or Business Electronic Banking and perform transactions on www.uwbank.com, we require the use of a Web browser that supports a 128-bit SSL encryption technology – among the strongest and most widely used methods of securing Internet transactions. You can tell your information is being protected when you see a URL that begins with “https” (instead of “http”) in the address line and a secure symbol, such as a closed padlock or key icon at the bottom of your browser screen.
Keeping the Internet safe.
First Citizens Bank reviews and approves the use of different browsers to ensure each browser meets our strict security standards. In addition to browser requirements, passwords and other safety features, First Citizens Bank uses other methods to help ensure that your banking experience on the Internet is safe and secure. We have a precise authentication process to ensure that when you request information on your account, only you receive the information.
First Citizens Bank's systems are protected by what's called a "firewall," allowing entry only to those who are authorized. For digital identity verification, we have a First Citizens Bank digital server certificate by VeriSign® that your browser uses each time you sign on to verify that indeed you are connected to First Citizens Bank.
Firewalls. The computers that run our website are protected by constantly monitored firewalls that act as a barrier between the Internet and our secure computer network – preventing unauthorized access. Every message that enters or leaves our network passes through the firewall. Messages that do not meet our criteria are blocked.
Virus Protection. We employ up-to-date anti-virus protection technology to detect viruses and prevent them from entering our computer network.
Timeout Feature. For additional protection, our online applications have a timeout feature that automatically ends your session after a certain period of inactivity.
First Citizens Bank does not request confidential information from customers via e-mail or pop-up windows.
